So, err…

The general principle is that we’re not supposed to teach the oral law to gentiles, but the general principle has exceptions, and it’s clear enough that there’s not much to be gained now by maintaining a detached silence. Wittmayer has what I think is a very good general introduction to the issue, and, at that level of detail, I don’t think there’s too much to add. Nevertheless, as a talmudjude myself, I think there’s something missing. It’s not something that, necessarily, would make an outside party more positively disposed, though I think it might. It is something, I think, that without having first chapped, you can’t really understand what’s going on in general. Again, given the circumstances, I don’t think there’s anything really to lose by being candid, but I also don’t need the aggro either from JIDF types or Nazis so we’re paywalling.
